SEO – The Marketing Tool of the Future

In the year 2010, when a company or business wants to promote itself, it no longer needs to turn to paper advertisements or television exposure, it turns to the Internet. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is currently the most popular web marketing technique used to improve a company’s revenue and popularity online. Created in the mid-1990s when the Internet was first booming, the SEO concept centers around ranking a website high among competitors across various search engines, such as Google, Yahoo!, Bing and so on.

Most of the strategies in SEO involve text. Certain key words make a company or product stand out online. The general idea behind Search Engine Optimization is to try to improve the content of a website to include as many of a particular key word, or group of key words, that are popular among similar companies. It is important to note that SEO is not a form of advertising, but rather, a marketing strategy that if followed correctly, will rank a website at the top of the list when a web surfer browses for topics by searching for a key word.

Although some companies pay to have their pages ranked high, SEO is a technique that can be used by anyone, anywhere. You don’t have to pay large sums to be ranked highly among competitors. The concept involves relevancy to a particular topic or key word. The more a company’s website is relevant to another person’s search, the higher their website will naturally rank. In order to have your page ranked high, a little research is needed. Finding out which key words are “hot” among competitors or web surfers will lead you to improve the content of your page and make it key word rich.
